A Formal Call for Accountability

The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) has sent formal letters to congressional leaders and two United Nations bodies asking them to investigate a troubling pattern of suspicious deaths of Black Americans — and whether racial bias is shaping how those cases are investigated. The move marks an escalation in the fight for justice and accountability.

LDF is asking Congress to create a commission and authorize federal tracking of these cases. The organization's letter cites a report identifying 70 cases of what it describes as “modern-day lynchings” between 2000 and 2025, concentrated in seven Southern states.

The report's findings are stark. Across the South, cases that should have drawn immediate scrutiny have gone unexamined, and families have been left without answers for years.
