Atlanta Black Pride 2026: Twenty Years of Strength in Unity at the Biggest Black LGBTQ+ Celebration in the Country
Atlanta is alive this Labor Day weekend with a celebration twenty years in the making. Atlanta Black Pride Weekend (ABPW) 2026 — one of the country's leading annual celebrations of Black LGBTQ+ culture, community, and pride — has returned to the city from September 2 through 7 for nearly a week of programming, entertainment, empowerment, and community engagement that draws thousands of attendees from across the nation.
This year's theme, "Strength in Unity," couldn't be more fitting for a moment when Black LGBTQ+ communities face both celebration and challenge. Twenty years after its founding, Atlanta Black Pride has evolved from a grassroots gathering into a nationally recognized event that centers Black queer excellence, amplifies community voices, and creates spaces where people can come to be seen, supported, and celebrated.
Two Decades of Making History
"For 20 years, Atlanta Black Pride Weekend has been more than a celebration," said ABPW co-founders Melissa Scott and Julius James in a statement. "It has been a space where our community can come together to be seen, supported, empowered and celebrated. This milestone represents the countless individuals, organizations, artists, advocates and allies who have helped us build something that reaches far beyond one weekend."
The anniversary programming reflects that expansive legacy. The Pure Heat Community Foundation, The Vision Community Foundation, Traxx Girls Inc., and RockStars Production return as producing partners for this year's celebration, ensuring that the event continues to deliver on its promise of quality, community care, and Black LGBTQ+ excellence.
Black Excellence Influencer's Dinner — Tonight at The Starling Hotel
Kicking off the weekend on September 4 — tonight, RockStars Production and Traxx Girls are hosting the fifth annual Black Excellence Influencer's Dinner at the Starling Hotel, hosted by the iconic Derek J. This highly anticipated gala serves as a fundraiser benefiting Atlanta Black Pride Weekend while honoring trailblazers, leaders, creatives, entrepreneurs, advocates, and influencers whose work has made a meaningful impact on the LGBTQIA+ community.
The 2026 honorees include: Jesseca Harris-Dupart, Vinny Watson, Carlos King, Jerome Trammel, SG, Cliff Vmir, MC Fatha Flex, Karen "KD" Douglas, Niesha Dupress, and Dr. Felicia Ivey. The evening will also pay tribute to Atlanta's own Sharell Canty in memoriam, honoring her life, legacy, and lasting impact on the Atlanta community with the ICON Award posthumously — a deeply moving gesture that affirms ABPW's commitment to honoring those who helped build the movement.
The Pure Heat Community Festival — Sunday at Piedmont Park
The crown jewel of Atlanta Black Pride Weekend is the 14th Annual Pure Heat Community Festival, taking place on Sunday, September 6, from noon to 8 PM at Piedmont Park. Produced by the Vision Community Foundation, Pure Heat is the free, all-community gathering at the center of Atlanta Black Pride — described by organizers as a "day of unity" that fills Piedmont Park with main-stage performances, DJs, a marketplace of Black-owned vendors, food, and health and wellness resources.
The 2026 festival features performances by Terrell Carter, Billy The Goat, Jhonni Blaze, Oliver Twixt, Steezo, 4N Yardi, Ty The Beyonce Slayer, Big Boss Vette, and more. Previous Pure Heat honoree Saucy Santana will return to the festival stage for a special performance. Grammy Award winner Durand Bernarr will receive the coveted 2026 Impact Award — marking his first appearance at the annual festival. The honor recognizes Bernarr's continued impact on music, culture, and LGBTQIA+ visibility, as well as his unapologetic artistry and commitment to authenticity.

Why Atlanta Black Pride Matters Right Now
In a national climate where Black LGBTQ+ communities face layered challenges — from economic insecurity and healthcare disparities to legislative hostility — Atlanta Black Pride stands as a vital declaration: our community is here, we are powerful, and we are building something that will outlast any challenge. For twenty years, this weekend has been proof that strength in unity is not a slogan. It is a survival strategy and a source of boundless joy.
