Atlanta Black Restaurant Week Celebrates 10 Years of Flavor, Culture & Community
A Decade of Flavor, Culture, and Community
Ten years ago, Atlanta Black Restaurant Week planted a seed — a belief that celebrating Black culinary excellence while building community economic power was not just possible, it was necessary. This August, that seed has grown into something magnificent. The 10th annual Atlanta Black Restaurant Week is in full swing, running from August 3–16, 2026, and the city is showing up like never before.
From world-class soul food kitchens to innovative international restaurants, from beloved neighborhood bakeries to creative food trucks parked on the Southside, this is Atlanta's most delicious celebration of Black business, Black culture, and Black community.
What Is Atlanta Black Restaurant Week?
Atlanta Black Restaurant Week is an annual two-week culinary celebration dedicated to spotlighting and supporting Black-owned food businesses across metro Atlanta. The event features special promotions, prix-fixe menus, and exclusive dining experiences at dozens of participating restaurants, food trucks, and bakeries.
This year's 10th anniversary celebration is bigger than ever, with restaurants participating across the city and throughout the broader metro area — including the ATL Airport District, spanning Fairburn, Hapeville, South Fulton, and Union City. Whether you're in Buckhead, Cascade, Vine City, or Decatur, there is a Black-owned culinary gem waiting for you to discover it.
Why It Matters Beyond the Plate
Atlanta's Black Restaurant Week is about so much more than a great meal — though the meals are absolutely great. It is an act of economic solidarity. When you dine at a Black-owned restaurant, you are directly investing in your community. You are helping a chef pay their staff. You are helping a family business owner keep the lights on, expand their menu, and dream bigger.
In a city where rapid gentrification continues to displace Black residents and businesses from historically Black neighborhoods, choosing to spend your dining dollars at Black-owned establishments is a powerful act of community preservation. Every visit, every takeout order, every review you leave on Google — it all adds up.
A Taste of What's on the Menu
Atlanta's Black culinary scene is a reflection of the city's rich, diverse, and global Black community. You'll find:
- Classic Southern Soul Food — Think tender fried chicken, collard greens slow-cooked to perfection, mac and cheese made from scratch, and cornbread that will make you forget everything else.
- West African and Caribbean Cuisine — Atlanta's growing diaspora communities have brought extraordinary flavors from Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad right to our doorstep.
- Modern Black American Fine Dining — A new generation of Black chefs is reinterpreting Southern and African American culinary traditions with innovative techniques and elevated presentations.
- Vegan and Plant-Based Options — Black-owned vegan restaurants and food trucks are thriving in Atlanta, proving that healthy eating and cultural food traditions can coexist beautifully.
- Bakeries and Desserts — From sweet potato pie to red velvet cake, from gourmet cupcakes to handmade Caribbean pastries, Atlanta's Black-owned bakeries are a must-visit.
The ATL Airport District Is a Hidden Gem
If you haven't explored the South Fulton and ATL Airport District dining scene, Atlanta Black Restaurant Week is the perfect excuse. The communities of Fairburn, Hapeville, South Fulton, and Union City are home to an incredible array of Black-owned food businesses that are often overlooked by those who stick to the more heavily marketed dining corridors. This two-week celebration shines a well-deserved spotlight on the Southside's culinary talent.
How to Make the Most of Atlanta Black Restaurant Week
Here's how you can fully participate and make an impact:
- Dine in or order out — Visit participating restaurants in person or support them with takeout or delivery orders. Every transaction counts.
- Bring friends and family — Make it a group experience. The more people you bring, the more impact you create.
- Leave reviews — After your meal, spend two minutes leaving a thoughtful review on Google or Yelp. This is one of the most powerful free things you can do for a small business.
- Post on social media — Share your dining experiences using #ATLBlackRestaurantWeek and tag the restaurant. Your reach matters.
- Buy gift cards — Can't make it during the week? Purchase a gift card to use later. The business gets the revenue now when it's most needed.
Black Food Is Black Culture
Food has always been central to Black culture and identity. Our recipes carry history — the ingenuity of enslaved Africans who transformed limited ingredients into extraordinary cuisine, the innovation of the Great Migration that spread Black cooking traditions across the country, and the creativity of today's Black chefs who are pushing culinary boundaries while staying rooted in tradition.
Atlanta Black Restaurant Week honors all of that. It honors the grandmothers who cooked without recipes and the young chefs who are now cooking on James Beard Award stages. It honors the food truck owner who started with a dream and a used vehicle and the restaurant owner who just signed a lease on their third location.
